Friday Coffee & Bookish Speaks- Monogamy vs. Polygamy

The title get your attention?

Naughty… Naughty….

Today I would like to talk about reading one book vs. reading many books at once. I’m a one on one kind of girl. The thought of reading two books at once drives me crazy! I wouldn’t consider myself the most focus person in the world, but when I am dealing with a story, I can only deal with one at a time. I just feel like honoring the story I am deserves my whole attention. Is that crazy?

My husband on the other hand is reading a handful of books all at once. How does he keep everything straight. I don’t get it! Great example that opposites attract. How do you absorb the information when you are reading many stories at once?

I learn that I am like this when I am crafting stories as well. I know that some writers can have several stories going on at once. Just like when I am reading I have to be in every detail of my story, if I had more then one going on at once, I might actually go insane. I am telling you people I spend a lot of time trying to keep my sanity. When you are a writer it’s a full time job!

How do you do it are you a monogomous or polygamous reader?

Absolutely got my attention with that one. ;) I’m rarely ever reading fewer than 2 books. It’s easy for me to keep them apart, and I like to have something to fall back on if I need a break with one book. I just finished a super violent, gritty, gruesome book, and I had a sarcastic and action packed urban fantasy to read when the grit got too much, like before bed. Works for me!

      I just can’t do that!

I always have a minimum of 3 on the go. A middle grade fiction that I’m reading aloud to the kids. A paperback or ebook. An audiobook or ebook via text to speech. One for the kids, one for my eyes and one for my ears.

Title caught my attention, because I thought you were going to talk about romances in books. That aside…..

I prefer reading 1 book at a time. Sometimes, I read 2. But, I will never understand how people who are reading 6 books at 1 point in time keep all that straight to write reviews of the books.
