Friday Coffee and Bookish Speaks – Why I read reviews

I’m ” drinking the usual fresh roasted coffee with cream.

What are you drinking?

This may seem like a no-duh thing reading reviews. I don’t assume just because one writes reviews means that they read reviews. I didn’t start reading reviews until I started writing them. I find other reviews really useful when trying to find which books I will review and won’t. When I’m on the fence about a book whether I am going to read it or not I find reading reviews helps me make up my mind.

The other reason I read reviews is to compare thoughts to mine. I love reading reviews of books I have already reviewed because I like to see other people’s perspective. I find it interesting that two people can read the same book and you’ll get totally different reactions. I like seeing that.

Overall I find reviews helpful. When you are constantly being asked to read books for review I find other reviews help give clarity on quality and context. It helps me make up my mind whether I want to read that book or not.

Do you read reviews? How do you find them helpful?

I have always read reviews long before I started blogging and revising myself.

As you pointed out they are helpful especially if well written and to the point. They give you an idea of the content and if you follow reviewers who like the same thing you do, you can see better if you will like it too.

I’ve also picked up books and genres I never would have read before and that’s because of the review’s. One example for me is historical romance – can’t for the life of me get into the genre, but one reviewers well written review caught my attention and made me think wow I might actually enjoy Beauty and the Highland Beast (A Highland Fairy Tale, #1), so I grabbed it and I really enjoyed the story. Not to say I haven’t had the opposite happen with book reviews making me think I’ll like it, but then I don’t.

Yeah I find new books all the time because of reviews that I read. It’s partly (mostly) why my tbr is miles long. I love reading reviews. Speaking of which, I am most definitely checking out Beauty and The Highland beast. Sounds really good.

I’m the same. My TBR is miles long too all because of the reviews I read.
Hope you enjoy Beauty and The Highland Beast. I was quiet surprised with how much I enjoyed it since it’s not my usual cup of tea, but now I’m curious in checking out the next coming later this year or early next year.

I do read reviews! I love seeing what other people think of a book, whether I’ve read it yet or not. I get most of my book suggestions from other bloggers these days and I love that!

Me too! I’m always adding new books to my tbr due to other bloggers reviews.
